Measuring approximately 5×6″, this glass decor is a perfect size to bring a breath of colour to your space. Whether you add to your home office, brighten up your mantle, or gift to a good friend, this piece of art is a beautifully earthy addition to any space.

How’s It Made?

Handcrafted from art glass, we create the Cattails Standup using multiple steps. First, we roll a slab of clay to the appropriate size. Next, we press cattails and reeds harvested from the local ditches into the clay, creating realistic and natural textures. We dry the clay slabs, ensuring they remain perfectly flat. Once dry, we bisque fire the clay to be used as a casting mold for the glass.

We cut and polish the glass to the appropriate size. Next, we use coloured glass powders and frits to accent the details in the textured clay mold. Once the colours have been applied, we carefully place the sheet glass overtop and place the casting mold into the kiln.

We kiln fire the glass to allow the frits and the sheet glass to fuse together. The colour is the glass itself; you won’t ever have to worry about the colour fading or washing off. During the firing, we anneal the glass. Because of this, we increase the strength and durability of the glass, so you know it will last for as long as you own the Cattails Standup fused glass art.
